What is the Worst Tragedy to Ever Strike Muslims?

New video from one of our writers on the centrality and importance of state power in Islam.  This video also covers why the fall of the weakened Ottoman khilafah (caliphate) was and still is the worst tragedy to afflict Muslims in the past century; as well as how and why the chaos present today in the Muslim World is a biproduct of both colonialism as well as a lack of a state to manage affairs of Muslims.

Israel is the Shadow of Arab Regimes

Israel is the shadow of the Arab regimes, so if those ceased to exist their shadow would cease to exist

Joe Biden Succinctly explaining US reasons for supporting Israel

In the United States and around the world, many are questioning why, despite some mild rebukes, Washington has maintained its large-scale military, financial, political, and diplomatic support for the Israeli occupation in the face of unprecedented violations of international law and human rights standards by Israeli occupation forces. Why is there such strong bipartisan support for Israel’s right-wing prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies in the occupied Palestinian territories?

The close relationship between the U.S. and Israel has been one of the most salient features

in U.S. foreign policy for nearly three and a half decades. The well over $3 billion in military

and economic aid sent annually to Israel by Washington is rarely questioned in Congress, even

by liberals who normally challenge U.S. aid to governments that engage in widespread

violations of human rights–or by conservatives who usually oppose foreign aid in general.

No other country comes close to offering the level of diplomatic support provided by Washington

-–with the United States often standing alone with Israel-- at the United Nations and other

international forums when objections are raised over ongoing Israeli violations of international

law and related concerns.  Why is this the case? What benefits does the US get from this policy?

And is the “Israeli lobby” solely to blame?

The Necessity of 'Amr Bil Mar'oof Wa Nahy Anil Munkar (Enjoining the Good & Forbidding the Evil) in Our Discourse

iSiyasah Gears.gif

The Qur’an is the eternal source of guidance for Muslims, indeed for all mankind. According to a Prophetic hadith, the Qur’an yields ever greater insights as human knowledge expands, yet contemporary Muslims have a frightening tendency to indulge in trivia concerning the Divine Book. Far from gaining deeper insights into the meanings of the Qur’an, many Muslims channel their energies into "proving" that modern scientific discoveries confirm Qur’anic revelations, as if the Qur’an needs such validation. There are others who have busied themselves with finding errors in the Bible. How many errors in the Bible does it take to make one a better Muslim? Yet other groups insist on watering down commandments in the Quran to mere rituals i.e. "tabligh" or "tasawwuf" to fellow Muslims, leaving out all other relevant precepts of the deen aside. These may still be considered less serious in light of the frightful arguments Muslims get into over where they should place their hands in salah or whether they should celebrate the prophet's birthday.

Our Credibility Problem: Its a Conspiracy

In light of some of the more ridiculous conspiracy theories peddled by the client regimes in Muslim lands, their employees and agents in different state-controlled media, as well as misguided Muslims in regards to world events such as September 11th, the causes of the Arab "Spring", the war in Syria, the Iraq war, or suicide bombings in Muslim lands, we present below a video of Professor Noam Chomsky castigating a 9/11 "truther" as well as a reprint of an excellent article by Brother Amir Butler below articulating why this type of thinking goes against Islam and is ultimately counterproductive.

It should be emphasized, that in the age of social media and hyperconnectedness -- always VERIFY what you read from multiple sources.  Furthermore, peddling well spun fiction (without any verification from reality) as opposed to studying the reality itself -- is one of the principle causes of decline of the Muslim world today.

It is our hope here at iSiyasah that any revival of the Muslim mind would first begin by engaging with reality, studying/observing it carefully, and then going through the rigorous process of finding evidence to justify political views and thinking-- rather than in believing the lazy fantasies of conspiracy theories.

Destroying Islam & Rebuilding It in the Image of the West

As we have previously mentioned in our write-up here and here, rockstar Muslim "celebrity sheikhs" and their groupies are not a pathway towards political and intellectual revival.  In order for Muslims and the general public to understand why this is the case, it is necessary to look back in time and see historically just how Muslim intellectual life was politically subverted via colonial  interference and foreign control.  This short write-up from over a decade ago, accurately and succinctly describes the colonial process necessary for controlling the minds and intellectual life of people residing in the Muslim World.  This form of colonialism was more insidious and long lasting - the shackles were mental and invisible -- but much much stronger.  The names/faces and hyped up personalities may change but the process remains essentially the same.
It is our view here at iSiyasah that any form of revival -- if it is to be genuine-- must actively work to undo these mental shackles and intellectual barriers to build an alternative and independent political and ideological order.

Destroying and Rebuilding Islam in the image of the west

By Yusuf Progler

As the Christian millennium looms, Muslims - rather than joining the celebrations - might fruitfully use the occasion to consider the Christian and western influence and impact on Islamic civilization. Beginning with the Crusades, and for nearly a millennium since, western Christian colonial and cultural incursions into the Muslim world are characterized by dastardly acts and destruction. Consider, for example, this case:

"They opened fire with cannons and bombs on the houses and quarters, aiming specially at the mosque, firing at it with those bombs. They also fired at suspected places bordering the mosque, such as the market. And they trod in the mosque with their shoes, carrying swords and rifles. Then they scattered in its courtyard and its main praying area and tied their horses to the qibla. They ravaged the students' quarters and ponds, smashing the lamps and chandeliers and breaking up the bookcases of the students and the scribes. They plundered whatever they found in the mosque, such as furnishings, vessels, bowls, deposits, and hidden things from closets and cupboards. They treated the books and Qur'anic volumes as trash, throwing them on the ground, stamping on them with their feet and shoes. Furthermore they soiled the mosque, blowing their spit in it, and urinating and defecating in it. They guzzled wine and smashed the bottles in the central court and other parts. And whoever they happened to meet in the mosque they stripped. They chanced upon someone in one of the student residences and slaughtered him."

When people first read this quote, some think it depicts the Christian expulsion of Muslims from Spain, while others see in it more contemporary events, such as the Christian genocide of Muslims in Bosnia. Certainly the deeds and barbarities described are consistent with many instances of western atrocities against Muslims. Murder, plunder, destruction, humiliation - Muslims have suffered all of these at the hands of western invaders.
